Most homes have single-phase 230V supplies, meaning the maximum suitable power of chargers for electric vehicles is 7 kW/32 amps. Chargers are supplied by a 6mm cable wired directly from your fusebox/consumer unit and must be on a dedicated circuit. 

Depending on the condition and capacity of your fusebox/consumer unit, an additional unit may need to be installed by our EV home charger installers to supply the electric vehicle circuit.

Suppliers now offer great EV tariffs with money-saving incentives. Scheduled charging enables the car to be plugged in and set to charge between pre-set times, like 00:30 and 04:30, when the EV tariff gives the lowest price of electricity.

Nine out of ten customers opt for tethered home EV chargers for their convenience. You can keep your spare lead in the boot to use when away from home. Some clients prefer untethered or socket-only options, as they find the coiled leads to be untidy when not in use. Some electric chargers still require an earth rod. Most chargers now have internal PEN fault protection that removes the need for an earth rod. Your new electric vehicle doesn’t need to be ready to have a charger installed. If using an OZEV or EST grant simply provide proof of an order from a dealership or a letter from your workplace, if it is being used as a company car. You must also have designated off-street private parking, such as a driveway or an allocated space, and meet other criteria detailed on the EV charger grants page.

Many electric car charger installers provide quotes without performing a site visit. Many UK wide businesses advertise as local EV installers but subcontract the installation to the lowest bidder which may compromise on quality and service. They will request crucial pre-installation information that will make no sense unless you have a thorough knowledge of electrics.
